Why Asphalt?
Asphalt is the paving material of choice for many commercial and large-scale paving projects for several reasons. Firstly, it is more affordable than other paving options such as concrete. Secondly, it is flexible and can take the occasional overly-heavy load without cracking and crumbling. Thirdly, asphalt is quick and easy to repair when damage does occur. It has several methods by which it can be repaired – rubberized crack filler, mill and overlay, and patching. Potholes can be instantly patched with cold mix asphalt, or with a permanent hot-mix asphalt cutting and patching job. Asphalt can be refreshed with sealcoating and fresh line striping. Finally, asphalt lasts for decades and is reliable.
Benefits of Parking Lot Resurfacing
Proper maintenance, like seal coating and prompt pothole repair, will keep your parking lot foundation in good condition. But when extensive damage is noted, it may be time for parking lot resurfacing. Resurfacing asphalt parking lots, aka mill & overlay, is a process by which a thin top layer of asphalt is removed from the asphalt pavement surface of your entire parking lot. This removes alligator cracks, corrects uneven surfaces, and other blemishes in the paved surface. Then, a fresh new asphalt layer is paved on top. A resurfaced parking lot has a completely fresh driving surface and the life of your entire lot is extended 20 years or so, at a fraction of the cost of a full asphalt replacement.
